According to two sources cited by News, Weinstein, 72, is receiving treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia, a rare illness that attacks white blood cells, at Rikers Island in New York.
\Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s attorney, told News that they would not comment further because to “respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy.”
Weinstein’s medical representatives have previously stated that he had spinal stenosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and fluid in his lungs and heart.
He underwent emergency surgery last month to remove fluid from his heart and lungs, and he was admitted to the hospital in July after testing positive.
His health problems coincide with Weinstein’s pending retrial in connection with his 2020 conviction for rape and sexual assault, which was reversed in April by the highest court in New York.
The Court of Appeals determined that he was not given a fair trial because the hearing judge unjustly permitted testimony against him on the basis of unrelated accusations.
He was convicted of raping an actress in Los Angeles in 2013 and was sentenced to prison again this year, even though that conviction was overturned.
