The PTA stressed in a recent statement that non-PTA mobile users can temporarily register their handsets by simply restarting them with a SIM card attached, however returning Pakistanis will be free from these taxes.
However, this is a temporary solution and does not represent a more widespread elimination of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) costs associated with the registration of handsets.
The PTA stated that, following the payment of FBR taxes, its responsibility was to confirm that mobile devices met the technical requirements for registration through the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS). It emphasized that the duty for carrying out and gathering these.
The PTA urged people to refrain from spreading unconfirmed information and to rely on official sources for updates in order to stop the spread of false information. The general public is recommended to speak with the FBR directly for up-to-date, accurate information regarding mobile device taxes.
Pakistanis living abroad are now able to register their phones through the Temporary Registration System for 120 days on each visit, tax-free, thanks to a feature the government implemented last year. This program was designed to make the procedure easier for foreigners who were returning home.
