Nishan-e-Haider award Havaldar Lalak Jan demonstrated outstanding defense tactics in the 1999 war with India. As tensions increased in May 1999, Lalak Jan, who had initially been stationed at the company headquarters, volunteered for combat service.
Lalak Jan successfully defended his post against several enemy attacks with a tiny detachment, causing heavy deaths. On July 7, despite being gravely wounded, Lalak Jan refused to back down in the face of intense shelling during the day and a three-pronged attack at night.
His counteroffensive caused significant enemy casualties. After that, Lalak Jan passed away from his wounds while protecting his station. According to enemy stories, this is a prime example of valiant last-ditch defense.
