The CCP Chairman, Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, along with members Salman Amin and Abdul Rashid Sheikh, convened the fifth and final hearing in the Phase II review of PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor and Orion Towers Ltd.
Although Wateen was against the proposed merger, Jazz and Zong voiced concerns about competition and the potential for abuse of power following the merger of Telenor Pakistan and Ufone. This is because the combined company would operate under the Pakistan Telecommuni-cation Company Ltd, which is the largest player in the internet and other telecom segments.
Jazz legal counsel Khalid Ibrahim highlighted concerns regarding frequency allocation, pointing out that this might further strengthen PTCL’s current strong presence in upstream sectors, such as spectrum, infrastructure, and IP bandwidth.
