The majority of Punjab’s districts are expected to have significant rains, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab. The monsoon season is predicted to last until July 15.
According to the PDMA spokeswoman, rain, thunder, and strong winds are predicted for the entire province.
Urban flooding poses a serious risk to major cities including Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, and Gujranwala, according to the PDMA. Furthermore, because of the severe rains, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi could see urban floods. Additionally, record rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours in Rawalpindi, Murree, Faisalabad, Lahore, Jhelum, and Sialkot.
The water flow in Punjab’s rivers and barrages is normal despite the anticipated downpour.
The Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej rivers’ water levels are now constant, according to the PDMA.
As per the PDMA, the water level in Tarbela Dam is 72% and in Mangala Dam 53%, whilst the water level in Indian dams on Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi is as high as 34%. In light of the potential of flooding in susceptible areas, all preparations have been made, the authority confirmed.
All relevant authorities have been directed by PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia to maintain a state of high alertness in order to protect the safety of the populace. To lessen the possible effects of the severe rains, he underlined how crucial it is to finish making prior plans, especially in major cities.
