Geert Wilders, the head of the Dutch populist Freedom Party (PVV), has opted to withdraw from the contest for prime minister, despite his party’s substantial success in the 2023 elections, according to reports.
In a statement made on X, Wilders stated, “I can only become Prime Minister if ALL coalition parties endorse it. “That was not the case.”
He continued, “I would like a right-wing cabinet. Less asylum and immigration. Dutch on one. My passion for my nation and voters is stronger and more vital than my personal position. “I adore NL.
Although the PVV emerged as the largest party in the Dutch election, it was forced to join a coalition with other parties. Dialogue with VVD (right and center), NSC (new social contract), and the BBB (farmers’ parties) has seemingly come to a deadlock.
