The 66-year-old was attacked in Manhattan on Wednesday shortly before noon.
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in mid-town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” his publicist stated in a statement released on Sunday.
“He is okay and appreciates everyone’s well wishes.”
According to the New York Police Department, the investigation into the attack is still ongoing and no one has been arrested.
In addition to winning an Emmy and a Golden Globe, Buscemi is well-known for his work as the lead actor in the critically acclaimed series The Sopranos and for his roles in the motion pictures Reservoir Dogs and Fargo.
The actor appears to be the target of a random attack, which comes after Michael Stuhlbarg, his co-star on Boardwalk Empire, experienced a similar situation in March.
Stuhlbarg was hit by a rock in the back of his neck while strolling through Manhattan’s Central Park.
