The Democratic Party of Hong Kong’s leaders have declared their intention to disband the once-largest opposition organization in the city.
According to chairman Lo Kin-hei, members will shortly cast their final vote on whether to dissolve the 31-year-old party.
Following China’s actions to suppress dissent in the city in the wake of the 2019 protests, the party has been fighting for survival.
The governments of Beijing and Hong Kong have maintained that such actions were required for the sake of national security.
