You can relax with a pint of regional ale or purchase hot, buttered crumpets. The ambiance is more kid-friendly, and the music is typically less frantic.
Next, Sugababes appear.
Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy, the original lineup, had regained the rights to their band name in 2019, but, due to delays caused by the epidemic, this was only their second performance back.
Donaghy recalls with great clarity that Mutya, in particular, didn’t think anyone would visit us.
Rather, the throng multiplied to the point where the tent could have held five times as many people.
The field was closed just before they went on stage. Every traffic is halted. Police officers stand watch at the gates.
It was really overpowering, remembers Siobhan. Not long before we took the stage, we received a safety briefing and all this additional security showed up.
Keisha laughs, “We thought someone famous had turned up.”
They were the stars, though.
The tent ropes hummed with a perfect mix of pop hits, including Push The Button, Overload, Hole In The Head, About You Now, and Freak Like Me. Fans who were unable to enter the field had to settle for peeking over hedges and across fences.
