On March 8, 2014, 239 people were on board Flight MH370 when it vanished over the Indian Ocean on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The jet has not been located even after millions of dollars were spent on the biggest search in aviation history.
The airline was still in shock from the earlier disaster when MH17 was shot down in July of the same year by an armed group under Russian control over war-torn Ukraine. Fifteen flight crew members and all 283 passengers perished.
That day, 160 planes had passed over the combat zone, but MH17 was the one that was struck.
