It has been repeatedly brought to light that the problem of brain drain and increased immigration—many of whom are qualified individuals—is becoming more and more prevalent. In the past year alone, nearly 20,000 Pakistanis have applied for asylum in Europe.
Up to 28,000 Pakistani people applied for international protection in the EU+ between October 2023 and October 2024, according to data from the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA).
According to statistics, the number of asylum applications peaked in October 2023 at over 3,400; since then, the numbers have shown a declining trend, reaching 1,900 applications in October 2024.
Italy has become the most popular country among Pakistanis in terms of their country preference.
