A few weeks ago, I rode in one of Waymo’s self-driving cars for a tour of San Francisco. I was amazed by how at ease people had become with not seeing a driver as we drove through the city. Tourists were no longer gaping at passersby as they passed, and there were numerous autonomous cars on any given street at any given time. The technology is now a common sight.
Within the car itself, there were indications that Waymo is attempting to evoke a similar emotion in its users. As passengers hop inside, the all-electric vehicle greets them by name and starts playing music.
