“An increasingly competitive domestic game has boosted England’s resilience levels going into Saturday’s wheelchair rugby league international against France,” head coach Tom Coyd said.
One-sided games in the Wheelchair Super League have significantly decreased during the past season, according to Coyd.
And when England plays their old international opponents in Wigan, he thinks that will help them.
The Leeds Rhinos won the Grand Final against the Halifax Panthers after going undefeated during the Super League season, but Coyd, who also coaches the London Roosters, has witnessed more close games this year.
Coyd told Sport, “We know against France that often happens. Players are really used to being exposed to high-pressure environments and games going right down to the wire.”
In 2023, a total of 40 points or more decided ten league games. The season has seen six games decided by two converted tries or fewer, and only one game decided by a 40-point margin.
Leeds had a difficult season, and despite their undefeated record, they had many close games, which gives me hope that all of the players are now accustomed to playing through the entire 80 minutes.
