Israel has been charged by Human Rights Watch of committing “acts of genocide” in Gaza by willfully denying Palestinian inhabitants there proper access to water.
It claims that Israel has purposefully damaged water and sanitation facilities as part of its efforts.
The advocacy group claims that this is equivalent to “committing the crime against humanity of extermination” and that it has likely resulted in thousands of fatalities.
The HRW report was dismissed as “propaganda” by Israel.
“The truth is the complete opposite of HRW’s lies,” the spokesperson for the Israeli foreign ministry said on X, accusing the group of “once again spreading its blood libels.”
The 179-page study states that “since October 2023, Israeli authorities have deliberately obstructed Palestinians’ access to the adequate amount of water required for survival in the Gaza Strip” .
