The city’s Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is displaying the 275 pieces.
For the first time, artists from other arts organizations could submit work with those from the Sitting Rooms of Culture Facebook community, which was founded to assist artists during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Chair of the Coventry Art Societies Exhibition Susan Moore described the process of choosing the artwork for the exhibition as “hard work” for both herself and the volunteers.
However, she went on, the resulting show was “absolutely fantastic”.
The town of Stratford-upon-Artist Robin Beauly Austin of Avon expressed his shock at having five of his pieces selected, describing himself as “overwhelmed”.
His words, “This means so much to me,”
“As a boy I used to wander round the Herbert looking at all the paintings and wishing one day mine would be up there.”
The chair’s favourite piece by him was selected by Ms Moore and is titled “Karl Olof”.
Karen Johnson, a member of Sitting Rooms of Culture, also had success getting her art accepted.
The textile artwork “Colliding Galaxies NCG2207” was created by her and represented “a patch of the universe and my expression of the magnificence of the cosmos”.
“On the day of the submissions for the exhibition there was a real buzz of excitement from the Sitting Rooms of Culture artists who brought their artwork into the gallery,” she stated.
“It was also a fantastic opportunity to meet all the artists and speak to them about their individual pieces, the techniques they used and the stories behind their creations.”
