While the federal government is debating giving the Rangers control of the security of the Red Zone in Islamabad, the Punjab Police has detained hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and other towns.
In connection with protests, arson, and destruction in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi on September 28, more than 170 more PTI employees have been arrested, bringing the total number of those detained in the city to above 300. The police claim that the process of identifying the culprits via social media videos and Safe City camera material is also in progress.
Police in Lahore made 84 arrests of PTI employees, many of whom were wanted in other instances, including ones involving the violent events that occurred on September 21 and May 9.
