Speaking on Monday, the US president mentioned that 600 people are still missing, days after Hurricane Helene caused devastation in multiple states and killed individuals in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Florida.
Millions of people are still without electricity, and authorities are also having difficulty getting water and other supplies to remote flood-affected areas.
According to Mr. Biden, he will travel to North Carolina on Wednesday and then, if time permits, Georgia and Florida.
He continued by saying that he “may have to request” that Congress hold a special session again.
Days before the Category 4 hurricane that pounded many states after hitting the Florida coast with gusts of 140 mph, Mr. Biden was giving a speech.
With 30 fatalities in Buncombe County, the storm caused the worst flooding in North Carolina in a century. State officials promised to provide more water and supplies to the afflicted communities.
