Pakistan actor Ayesha Omar is thinking of leaving Pakistan given the current economic situation and the safety of women in the country.
“I don’t feel safe here. I want to walk on the road, as it is every human’s need to go out for fresh air. I want to cycle, but why can’t I do it?” said as she was speaking on a podcast.
Omar said the only time women could walk outside was during the COVID-19 lockdown. “I feel stressed and anxious in Karachi and I just don’t feel safe, and I don’t think many women do,” she said.
No matter how hard they try, men will never fully comprehend the upbringing that Pakistani women experience. A man cannot fathom the fear that a woman in this country feels. You experience constant anxiety.”
She added that she used to take buses and that she felt much safer in Lahore than in Karachi when she was a college student. She revealed that she had been mugged twice in Karachi when asked about any incidents.
She bemoaned the fact that she cannot move around freely in Pakistan without fear of being robbed, mugged, or kidnapped. “Freedom and safety are basic human needs that are not met,” she emphasized.
