“All I have to say is, I’m sorry, I’m here to stay.”
Erling Haaland directed the message at Premier League defenders in a social media video that Manchester City posted after the Norwegian striker agreed to a new deal through 2034.
However, Alan Shearer, the all-time Premier League record goalscorer, might potentially be the target of the message.
Shearer’s 260-goal record may soon be within reach thanks to Haaland’s new deal, which is the longest in the Premier League.
After all, Haaland, who has scored 79 Premier League goals to date, has done so at a rate of 0.9 goals per game, which is much greater than Shearer’s 0.59.
“He will definitely break that record if he stays for that long,” Shearer said on Friday to BBC Sport.
“I’ll go with my record.”
