Although many thirty-year-olds might have one-track careers, American gymnast Aly Raisman can now add “author and advocate” to her resume, that is already chock-full of Olympic gold. The two-time Olympian is equally proud of her job keeping athletes safe as she is of her time on the podium. She won six medals as a member of Team USA’s “Fierce Five” in the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro “Final Five.”
Raisman was one of the people who endured mistreatment at the hands of Larry Nassar, the former Olympic gymnastics doctor for Team USA. She conversed with Katty Kay, a news special.
When Raisman (then eighteen) competed on the balancing beam at the London Games in 2012, she was predicted to finish in fourth place and not win a medal. With three medals, she was the most decorated gymnastics team member when she left London. In addition to Team USA winning gold in the women’s artistic gymnastics team all-around, she became the first American woman to win gold in the gymnastics floor exercise. Raisman is still surprised that she earned a bronze medal in the balance beam competition.
