Four days have passed since my house turned into a heap of smoldering embers and Los Angeles turned into an inferno.
I evacuated my condo in the Palisades, 30 miles (48 km) from the fires’ original location on Tuesday morning, and am now living at a friend’s house in La Crescenta, north of the city.
I had assumed that we would be safe here, but with six fires currently raging throughout the city, it doesn’t feel safe anywhere. I am among the more than 179,000 people who have been forced to flee due to the flames in Los Angeles thus far.

Stunning pictures of devastation, grief, and bravery
Many people I know had to evacuate again after believing they had found safety.
Our luggage are waiting for us at the door, in case we receive an order.
