The 54-year-old model started Fashion For Relief in 2005 with the goal of fusing fashion with philanthropy. However, upon closer examination, it was discovered that very little of the funds raised actually benefited worthy causes.
Earlier this year, Fashion For Relief was disbanded and taken off the charity registry.
Campbell committed misconduct when he used charitable donations to cover the cost of spa services, room service, and cigarettes during his stay at a five-star hotel in Cannes, France.
Three trustees of the charity have been disqualified as a result of the investigation, including Campbell.
In 2021, Fashion For Relief was the subject of a probe by the Charity Commission, which oversees and registers charitable organizations in England and Wales.
The charity’s goal was to alleviate poverty and improve health and education by funding global catastrophe relief efforts and granting grants to other organizations.
It held fundraising events in Cannes and London among other places to make money.
But the investigation discovered that only 8.5% of the charity’s total spending between April 2016 and July 2022 went toward charitable gifts.
Campbell declared that she was “extremely concerned” about the results and that she had launched an investigation.
