Even if an extension were made available to all judges, Qazi Faez Isa, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), has vehemently denied having any interest in prolonging his term.
In an informal discussion with reporters, Obama addressed rumors and made clear where he stood on a number of important subjects.
The prime minister’s advisor Rana Sanaullah reportedly inquired if the CJP would also seek an extension if the retirement age of all judges was raised. A journalist questioned the CJP about his remarks. Isa the Judge said emphatically, “Bring Rana Sanaullah before me.”
He went on to clarify that Rana Sanaullah was not present at the meeting that included the attorney general of Pakistan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
