Following rumors that a prisoner of war may have been slain, Australia has vowed to take the “strongest action possible” if Russia has injured one of its citizens who was seized while fighting for Ukraine.
Following his abduction by Russian soldiers last month, a video of Oscar Jenkins being interrogated while wearing a military uniform went viral.
The 32-year-old has most likely been slain, according to reports this week from CNN affiliate Seven News and Australian national network ABC, both of which cited Ukrainian sources.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated during a press conference on Wednesday that his government is “extremely concerned” and has been “seeking urgent clarification” on the situation.
“The Russian ambassador has already been called in,” he stated.
