ISLAMABAD: Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail of the Supreme Court has questioned whether attacks on the Supreme Court and Parliament House will be tried in anti-terrorism tribunals (ATCs), rather than military courts, which would handle an attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ).
Justice Mandokhail stated that he believes all three attacks should be treated equally during a hearing on Monday’s intra-court appeal against the trial of civilians in military courts.
Khawaja Ahmad, the attorney for former Chief Justice Jawad S. Khawaja, made his arguments before a seven-member constitutional bench presided over by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
Ahmad maintained that military courts do not adhere to the standards of a fair trial and that civilians should never be exposed to a court-martial.
