In response to applications contesting a notice from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) prohibiting court reporting, the Islamabad High Court has issued a written ruling.
Subject to the rules set down in a Supreme Court ruling, the court has given authorization for media coverage of court proceedings.
The request to postpone the PEMRA hearing was granted by the IHC chief justice in writing, who also instructed that the case be scheduled for hearing during the first week of July.
This ruling is in response to petitions contesting the PEMRA notification that were submitted by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the Islamabad High Court Journalist Association, and press associations.
