The Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to remove Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, the judge of the Election Tribunal, has been overturned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Chief Justice Amir Farooq delivered the decision and reserved his judgment in this case.
The Election Commission has been directed to reexamine the case and render a new decision by the court.
Petitioners Shoaib Shaheen, Aamir Mughal, and Ali Bukhari brought the issue before the court, contesting the Election Commission’s decision to substitute Justice Jahangiri.
The commission’s prior determination has been virtually nullified by the LHC ruling, opening the door for a fresh decision on the tribunal nomination.
