Notifications regarding the Federal Excise Duty (FED) on the transfer or allotment of immovable properties by builders and developers were sent by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to the Attorney General of Pakistan and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The validity of Table III of the First Schedule of the Federal Excise Act 2005 was disputed by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Islamabad.
The Chairman of the FBR, the Commissioner of the Large Taxpayer Office in Islamabad, and the Secretary Revenue of the Federation of Pakistan were among the respondents in this case.
DHA Islamabad had contended that the latest amendment imposed Excise Duty on property transfers without a proportionate local government involvement in land transactions and numerous services for its citizens.
