Senators Faisal Vawda and Talal Chaudhry have connected the May 9 riots that broke out last year after the arrest of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to the indictment of former spymaster Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid on charges of engaging in political activities, among other things.
According to the military’s media wing, the former head of ISI has been officially charged with a number of offenses, including political activity, breaking the Official Secrets Act, abusing power and public funds, and inflicting unlawful loss to a person or people.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Tuesday that these transgressions had jeopardized state interests and security.
Senator Vawda reaffirmed in an interview with Geo News that the PTI’s call for civil disobedience on December 14 .
