Unexpectedly, the most well-known news organization in Israel has expressed disapproval of the recent arrests of leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on charges of breaking the law.
This is only one week after a prominent Israeli daily, The Times of Israel, proposed that Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, is the most qualified candidate from Pakistan to legally recognize Israel.
The previous prime minister’s ties to the Jewish community—especially the Goldsmith family—were a major consideration in the newspaper’s evaluation.
This is a significant change, since prominent Israeli media, which are generally seen as tightly aligned with the government’s viewpoint, are publicly endorsing Imran Khan at a time when he is facing grave corruption allegations that include the possibility of jail time.
