Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), asked on Wednesday that Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid, the former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), be given an open trial after the military detained him on charges of abusing his authority and breaking the Army Act.
The open trial, according to the former prime minister who was ousted from office by a parliamentary vote in 2022, would help the nation and enable it to grow.
“I want an open trial for Faiz Hamid, and the media should be allowed access to cover it,” the former premier stated informally with reporters in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Hamid has been imprisoned for more than a year on charges ranging from terrorism to corruption.Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, referred to Khan’s remarks as an interference in the affairs of the army.
Taking a jab at the former prime minister, the report claimed that the PTI founder had been making repeated attempts to turn the issue surrounding the army’s internal accountability mechanism into a “controversial” one through his remarks.
