RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan, the founder of the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has urged Yahya Afridi, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), to defend justice and the rule of law.
Speaking to reporters informally at the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, the PTI founder told the CJP, “The nation is looking towards you.”
Khan claimed that “because all democratic avenues have been obstructed,” he wrote two letters to General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Following a boycott by PTI MPs and two senior Supreme Court justices, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), authorized the appointment of six new judges to the Supreme Court.
The 71-year-old politician and former cricket player, who has been imprisoned since August, stated, “The CJP needs to stand by law and justice.”
