WASHINGTON—The United States State Department has reaffirmed that the Pakistani courts should make the final decision about the current judicial procedures against Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“The legal proceedings against the former prime minister are matters for the Pakistani courts to decide,” stated Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the State Department.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the spokesperson denied that the United States was involved in Khan’s removal.
“There is no truth to the claims that the United States had any involvement in his ouster from office.”
Miller went on to say that he had discussed the problem “any number of times from this stage” and that “in the end, Pakistani politics is a matter for the Pakistani people to decide in accordance with.
