Notable individuals who have been granted approval for the ECL include journalists Imran Riaz Khan and Sami Ibrahim. A recommendation has been made for both persons to be included in the ECL since there are continuing probes against them.
Significantly, the cabinet also approved the removal of 22 people’s names on the ECL, including Babar Awan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In December 2023, Babar Awan’s name was first added to the ECL in relation to the lawsuit worth 190 million pounds.
The federal cabinet approved the list’s update in light of the ECL subcommittee’s recommendations.
The ruling coincides with continuous attempts to control the ECL, guarantee that it is properly applied to resolve legal issues and stop those under investigation from leaving the country. The inclusion and withdrawal of names from the ECL reflect the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and facilitating due process in legal proceedings.
