RAWALPINDI: On Tuesday, Imran Khan, the former premier and imprisoned founder of the PTI, endorsed the lawyers’ protest movement against the “unconstitutional” selection of judges and called the 26th Amendment a “attack” on the legal system.
His lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, told reporters what he said outside the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
His comments were made the day after the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) authorized the nomination of six new Supreme Court justices, despite a boycott by two senior SC judges and PTI MPs. The legal community has criticized the earlier transfer of three judges from Sindh, Balochistan, and Lahore to the IHC.
The selections of the six judges on the highest court would be contested by the legal community.
