During a recent Senate Standing Committee on Energy hearing, Senator Palwasha Khan brought attention to concerning instances of excessive billing in the electricity industry.
Khan particularly brought up her sister’s Lahore home, where a 500-unit bill was altered to 900 units and charged an astounding Rs70,000, even though a 5kW solar system had been installed, at the meeting presided over by Senator Mohsin Aziz.
Senator Khan vented her annoyance, saying her sister had tried 28 times in three months, and the law had not been changed. She said, “Overbilling is done to reduce line losses,” and mentioned that the handwritten bill she had received lacked important information regarding the units she had used.
“What are they doing with the common man?” Senator Khan asked.
