To make the UK “the best place in the world” for those who have served in the armed forces, the prime minister has unveiled a number of initiatives.
This includes lowering the price of the Veterans Railcard from £30 to £21, which is the same as what active military personnel now pay for the HM Forces Railcard.
In an effort to encourage businesses to keep hiring veterans, the Conservatives also seek to expand the current national insurance exemption for those who do so.
However, Labour claimed that the Tory record regarding veterans is “shameful”.
A new Veterans Bill will cover the measures and guarantee, for the first time, that military qualifications are legally equivalent to civilian qualifications.
The government had previously declared plans to pass this law in October of last year, but the early general election caused it to be postponed.
“The heroes who have given their lives to defend our freedoms represent the very best of our country,” Mr. Sunak stated.
“With our clear strategy to provide them with the opportunities, aftercare, and support they need to live wealthy, full lives, we have made it our priority to make the UK the best place in the world to be a veteran.
