Guy Mukendi, 39, of Brixton, south London, was found guilty on April 2 and was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court.
On May 9, of last year, a young woman in Brixton reported the assault. She had agreed to meet Mukendi for sex on the condition that he use a condom. However, he took away the protection throughout the interaction without her awareness.
From the moment the victim reported the event to the Metropolitan Police, they stated she received support during the “very difficult time.”
Working with the victim, police were able to collect screenshots of messages Mukendi made apologizing for removing the condom and trying to justify his conduct by claiming he hadn’t had sex in a while.
After that, he erased the messages, but the screenshots helped to prove his guilt.
Due to underreporting, prosecutions for non-consensual condom removal—which is regarded as rape under English and Welsh law—are extremely uncommon, according to the police.
The investigation’s lead detective, Detective Constable Jack Earl, stated: “Mukendi denied any wrongdoing throughout the investigation, but our officers built a compelling case against him to leave no doubt in the jury’s mind.”
