Frozen Moments LLC, Drake’s business, has sued Universal Music Group (UMG) in Manhattan.
The filing was filed on Monday, November 25th, according to People magazine, which saw the records.
Drake’s attorneys stated in the 17-page filing that on May 4, 2024, UMG published Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” under the Interscope label.
The label “launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves” with the music, the lawyers claimed, including “pay-to-play agreements” and “bots” to boost its popularity.
Additionally, according to Drake’s attorneys, Spotify recommended Not Like Us to customers looking for “unrelated” tracks and artists in exchange for UMG giving Spotify a 30% reduction on licensing fees.
