On Saturday at Eden Park, Harlequins prop Fin Baxter will start for England for the first time against New Zealand.
The only alteration to England’s starting XV, which lost the opening Test 16–15, is the 22-year-old taking Joe Marler’s place, who was injured.
After Marler was ruled out of the second and final Test in Auckland due to a foot injury, Baxter made his debut for his country in Dunedin, replacing his Quins teammate in the first half.
The only other alteration to the matchday squad is the addition of Bevan Rodd from Sale to the bench as England looks to become the first team to defeat the All Blacks at Eden Park since 1994.
Dan Cole is also a replacement; should he come off the bench to win his 115th cap, he will rise to second position among England’s most-capped male players.
With 127 caps, scrum-half Ben Youngs leads the way, level with 2003 World Cup champion Jason Leonard, the Leicester prop.
Borthwick went on, “Dan Cole is still very valuable to this group and his influence as a role model is vital.”
He is among the best players England has ever had. You don’t say it about a prickly person very often.
