The 47-year-old, who is captaining the Ineos Britannia team representing the UK in the America’s Cup, was robbed on Saturday night as he was leaving a restaurant, according to local media.
The estimated value of the watch was €20,000 (£16,858).
On Monday, Sir Ben reported the theft to the Barcelona police.
“Barcelona is a fantastic host city for the America’s Cup, and the team has felt welcomed and is enjoying our stay in this vibrant city,” he told The News.
“Opportunistic crime can have an impact on you, just like it can in any large city, and my position is no exception. The local authorities are currently handling this issue.
A police unit in Barcelona that specializes in stealing expensive watches was established in response to a wave of thefts of luxury timepieces.
From 1996 onward, he has competed in five successive Olympics and won medals, including four straight golds in the 2000–2012 games.
