Of the 250 people who have attempted suicide, 25 have died as a result of their struggles, including several women.
Zafar Abbas was a police officer who suffered from extreme mental stress and took his own life two days ago. Recent news has shed light on his tragic story.
It is said that Abbas, who had been on medical leave for the previous month, ended his agony by tying a noose around himself.
His passing has highlighted the heavy psychological load that law enforcement officers bear. As RPO Dr. Abid put it, “Our job is inherently stressful,” underscoring the need for more mental health treatment within the force.
Medical professionals are raising the alarm and pointing to depression as the main cause of these suicides.
Renowned psychiatrist Dr. Salma emphasised how critical it is to identify the warning indications of mental illness.
“When an individual’s eating, drinking, sleeping, and daily routines are disrupted, it is imperative to seek psychiatric help,” she said.
The data presents a dismal image. There have been 250 attempts at suicide by men and women in just four and a half months, a 15% increase from the previous year.
