In the Asian Champions League quarterfinals, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi team Al Nassr was drawn Monday against Japan’s Yokohama F-Marinos, the runners-up from the previous season.
Despite winning the UEFA Champions League five times, veteran attacker Ronaldo, a former Real Madrid and Manchester United player, has never won Asia’s premier club competition.
Next month, the 40-year-old Portuguese will lead Al Nassr’s aspirations against a Yokohama team led by Steve Holland, who was once England’s assistant to Gareth Southgate.
The event, now known as the Champions League Elite, will include one leg in the Saudi city of Jeddah for the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.
The winner of the match between Al Sadd Qatar and Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in the round of eight will be either Al Nassr or Yokohama.
