ISLAMABAD: After assuming power for the second time, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new loan under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) begin immediately.
In his first economic meeting, conducted only hours after taking his oath of office, the newly-elected premier gave a set of directives aimed at revitalizing the struggling economy.
The secretary of finance, who was present during the meeting led by the prime minister, briefed Shehbaz on the country’s current economic predicament, which is going through one of its most difficult periods – both politically and economically.
“We were given a mandate to improve the country’s economy […] this is our government’s top priority,” the prime minister added.
