In Jigawa state’s Majia town, victims were burned to death on Tuesday while attempting to gather gasoline that had leaked from the downed car.
A representative for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nura Abdullahi, stated that “more than 140” victims had been interred in a mass grave and issued a warning that the number was probably going to climb.
According to Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson Lawan Shiisu Adam, over the phone with Reuters, the event happened in Majia town in the Taura local government area, roughly 530 kilometers north of the capital Abuja.
According to Adam, the injured were brought to nearby hospitals in the towns of Ringim and Hadejia, where they received medical attention.
Later in the day, he continued, there would be a mass burial for the deceased.
