The worrying growth in mental illness in Pakistan was brought up during the National Assembly session on Thursday, which Speaker Ayaz Sadiq presided.
Unsettling statistics from the Ministry of Health showed that more than 80 million people in the nation experience psychological issues.
According to the ministry’s report, 126 medical colleges have functioning departments of psychiatry and mental health, and all major hospitals in Pakistan have access to psychiatric treatment services. Even with these measures, there is still much worry about the prevalence of mental health concerns.
Rai Hasan Nawaz questioned the shutdown of health card services started by the previous PTI government during the session. He proposed that the cessation of these services, which were intended to provide public access, may have been motivated by political considerations.
