The Pakistani government has not written nor approved any such legislation. The Federal Ministry of Law and Justice’s secretary, Raja Naeem Akbar, told Fact Check that the statement is “not correct.”
In an interview with Fact Check, Waiza Rafique, a legal consultant to the government’s national commission on the status of women based in Islamabad, dismissed the rumors as “fake” as well.
Furthermore, Punjab’s Women Development Department Secretary, Sumaira Samad, said she was unaware of any such law being passed.
Geo Fact Check looked into the allegations further by visiting the official gazette’s website and the National Assembly’s website. No such law has been approved by the parliament as of May 16.
