“Trucks carrying sugar, vegetable oil, and pulses are parked outside the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for the last two days and as a result there is shortage of these items in the retail market,” Rawalpindi Merchant Association President Saleem Pervaiz Butt.
He said, however, that the district administration did not reply to his request, and the relevant officials stated that the district forbade the entry of any form of goods truck.
He said that the open market prices of sugar and beans had gone up as a result of the food crisis.
However, a high-ranking district administration official stated that last week, the dealers were notified to stockpile food.
