In relation to the death of a 95-year-old woman he tasered during an altercation at a nursing home, an Australian police officer was convicted guilty of manslaughter.
When Clare Nowland, who was exhibiting symptoms of dementia, was spotted wandering the halls with a steak knife in May 2023, Senior Constable Kristian White was called to the facility.
White deployed his taser after repeatedly asking her to drop the knife, which caused Nowland to stumble backward and injure his head.
A week later, she passed away from a brain bleed in the hospital. She was characterized as “frail” and weighed less than 50 kg at the time of the occurrence.
