ISLAMABAD According to The News on Wednesday, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) review team is scheduled to travel to Pakistan during the first week of the upcoming month in order to conduct review parleys under the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
Since Islamabad will need to request waivers for the unfulfilled conditionalities, the first review of the IMF-sponsored program is thought to be extremely important.
In September 2024, the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif obtained the IMF’s Executive Board’s approval for the new loan program, and a $1.02 billion tranche was subsequently disbursed.
Islamabad will also need to develop a wider agreement on the main features of the upcoming budget for 2025–2026 with the IMF officials in Pakistan.
